US*99
radio station recognized Ms. May as an Outstanding Teacher. She
received "Teacher of the Week" honors from Guitar Gavin, of
the morning show,
at Tarkington on November 29, 2000.
This was the nomination letter that I sent to the station on behalf of
room 203.
Ms. May is a
unique teacher. She teaches curriculum with enthusiasm, teaches life
skills with sincerity, and teaches to the individual with encouragement.
She is serious yet cheerful, and firm yet warmhearted.
The students’
learning is the focus of her day. Advanced students are constantly
enriched through reading and math challenges; while students with
struggling skills are broadened through individual instruction.
However, she
touches more than just these 10 year olds lives. She is an inspiration
to colleagues, provides support for parents, and is generous enough to
share room 203 with me (a student teacher). She offers reassurance when
I second guess myself, guidance when I don’t know which to choose, and
freedom to try new things. She juggles her schedule with my schedule,
with the band schedule, with the special schedule, and with the resource
schedule while accomplishing all of her daily goals.
Not only is
she an extraordinary teacher, she is also a phenomenal mentor. These 25
fifth graders and I are truly blessed to have Ms. May a part of our
daily lives. |
