Dear Educator:
On May 12, 2001, I graduated from Illinois State University with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and specializations in language
arts and social sciences. My educational experiences have given me a
strong background and a desire to be a life long learner. The
Professional Development School (PDS) has given me an opportunity to
student teach for an entire school year. This program gave me
substantial time to work in conjunction with a classroom teacher from
August to May. I am highly interested in obtaining a teaching position
in your district. The enclosed resume is a brief outline of my
qualifications for a teaching position in a primary or intermediate
classroom.
While concentrating on linguistics at Illinois State University, I
learned a great deal about language development from the Speech
Pathology & Audiology Department. The knowledge that I gained from
this experience has helped me teach students how to read and further
their language development.
In addition to my specialization in language arts and social
sciences,
one of the highlights of my educational training has been learning how
to teach mathematics effectively. The Cognitive Guided Instruction (CGI)
approach has taught me how to learn about my students’ thinking. This
approach has students problem solving and explaining their reasoning
about mathematics. I have practiced this technique in a classroom
setting as well as with several of my students that I tutor privately. I
am eager to continue learning how to extend my students’ thinking in
mathematics as well as other subjects.
My career objective is to encourage and motivate my students to be
proud of themselves and try their best. Establishing self-confidence to
attack any school or life challenge is the most important and valuable
characteristic a child can develop. Witnessing student success is the most touching, wholesome, and rewarding feeling that I have ever experienced.
I would
like to have an opportunity to discuss my qualifications in person.
Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from
you very soon.
Cordially,
Anna Hallock
