Comprehension using Science Text 8th grade

Purpose: The students will begin to grasp the concept of monitoring reading. The students will identify important text in the chapter and write questions and answers based on them.

Procedures: *The students will have a chart (see attached) and they will read each section and identify concepts that are important for this chapter.

*They write the questions and answers independently.

* Collect the papers, and the teacher will be the host of the game.

*The teacher asks a question, and each team discusses what they think the answer is. Teacher chooses a group to answer. Continue until all questions have been asked.

*This may be done in 2 days due to time it requires.

I chose this strategy because the students can adapt this to any text that they have to read for a test. I could not find a strategy exactly like this in the books, but I am anticipating this will be successful. The students will develop their comprehension because they have to critically think about a question for each section. They also will develop their verbal comprehension skills by listening to the question and answers in the game.
