How did I do it? (slowly, the adverb)
think/share:
choose a verb and an adverb. In
your table teams, pantomime your verb and adverb.
Did your group guess your verb and adverb?
Assessment/Closure:
Individual Practice. 5
questions and a challenge question at the end.
Grade in class if time permits.
Rationale for Primary Strategy: I
chose to begin with direct instruction because most students have a
difficult time with adverbs and do not know how to even identify one.
I am modeling the activity that we are doing as a group.
The class will do think/share in the activity because they are
creating an idea and demonstrating it to their class.
Modification-Differentiation: I will modify this
lesson by helping the low students think of a verb and an adverb.
I will differentiate by having a challenge question on the bottom
of the assessment for early finishers.
Reflection-Debriefing
This lesson was very successful.
The students had prior knowledge about what an adverb does, but
this activity gave them the chance to act out the verbs and how an
adverb reflects it. The
students enjoyed it and were very engaged while doing their verb and
adverb. I did have to help
one student get an idea about what to do.
The challenging question at the bottom for the early finishers
presented a problem for some who had a hard time creating a sentence
with an adjective and an adverb. This
was meant as a review because we were including the the adjectives.
I decided to do this challenge together at the end because I
wanted everyone to think about it.
Some were just giving up. We
started with a basic sentence with a verb and a noun.
Then added an adjective to describe the noun and an adverb to
describe the verb. Then, more of the students were able to give me a better
sentence.
Intelligences
MI-bodily, linguistic
LS- visual, kinestetic
BT- knowledge, comprehension, application
Classroom Management Techniques- I will have the groups perform their verb and adverb
to each other. After each person has had a turn, I will call the group back
together by clapping my hands to a rhythm.
I also used Ms. May’s management technique of ripping a
“ring” when the class is doing quality work.
